Her time of 2:20.40 in the 800 meters, the final event of the competition, was good for second in that event but enough to give her 500-point victory over second-place Emily Lavarnway of UConn. Coan won the first two heptathlon events on Friday (the 100-meter hurdles and the high jump) to build a lead that she would never relinquish. That total was a lifetime best for the graduate transfer. The other BIG EAST title for the Bulldogs on Saturday came from Rebecca Coan, who captured the heptathlon with 5,445 points. The mark broke the school record in the event, which was set earlier this season (3:10.83). Butler finished with 109 points, trailing only 2022 champion UConn (258) and Georgetown (125). That win in the final event of the day propelled the Bulldogs into a third-place team finish on the men's side. – Butler capped off the 2022 BIG EAST Outdoor Track & Field Championships presented by JEEP in grand fashion, as the Bulldog men broke the UConn facility record in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:09.48.
