![]() In no uncertain terms, this is a bonafide box office mega-hit. Released 36 years after the original “Top Gun” (1986), the Tom Cruise-fronted sequel proved to be the perfect mix of nostalgia and action for audiences both old and young. Also, people unfamiliar with the manga will not feel lost while watching the movie, although they might not quite grasp why certain characters had to be included. The film plasters this admiration across its backgrounds, resulting in an experience that feels like a tribute to Ohba's work and the industry in general. While cutting out most of the characters' trials and tribulations, the adaptation absolutely nails the source material's love for manga. Unsurprisingly, the 2015's Bakuman live-action movie does not quite have the time to capture everything that makes the manga and anime so beloved however, the feature gives it a respectable try. Staff that lasted for three seasons, and the show comes close to matching the source material's quality. The manga inspired an anime adaptation by J.C. Producing 20 high-quality volumes, the story depicts Moritaka Mashiro and Akito Takagi's journey to becoming published mangakas, with their ultimate goal being to create a shonen jump property popular enough to warrant an anime. Tsugumi Ohba's Bakuman is the definitive manga (and anime) about manga (and anime). Newcomers to the series will find themselves watching a creative and tense horror film with a creative premise meanwhile, fans will likely appreciate the adaptation's faithfulness, even if they might not get too much out of the overall experience. Just to be clear, The Promised Neverland is a more than decent live-action anime movie that features generally solid acting, sets, and direction. However, the film takes almost no risks as its only significant deviation is that some characters are older than their manga and anime counterparts. While slightly rushed in places, the movie succeeds in capturing the dread at the heart of the Grace Field House orphanage. How far should an adaptation deviate from the source material?
